    Twin Lakes State Park

    Twin Lakes State Park can be found near Farmville and about an hour by car from Richmond, VA. Camping facilities are provided and there are cabins available to rent. Fishing and boating are popular activities at this park, and swimming at the beach is permitted from Memorial Day to Labour Day.

    Blackwater Creek Natural Area

    Totaling 288 acres of land, the Blackwater Creek natural park is the largest of the city parks. It is located in the heart of Lynchburg and has 12 miles of trails available for hiking, horseback riding and skating. There is access points to the park at Monticello Ave, Hill St., Thomson Dr. East Randolph St., Jefferson Park, Hollins Mill Rd. and Cabell St.

    George Washington's Ferry Farm
    George Washington's Ferry Farm was the boyhood home of the United States president, and where he confessed to chopping down the cherry tree. During the Civil War, the farm was used as a campground by Union soldiers. At the visitor's center, guests can see relics of the Washington's first house that were uncovered during archaeologic digs.
